WELCOME

Thank you, for visiting the Constantia Safaris web-site. Your Kalahari and African Safari adventure starts right here with us. The Constantia team’s professionalism, attention to detail and warm hospitality will ensure a remarkable African adventure. Our safaris are conducted under cobalt blue Northern Cape skies and in the Kalahari with its rolling red dunes, home to the magnificent Oryx – often referred to as the Unicorns of the desert. We also track Africa’s other animals that roam the blackthorn and camphor-bush studded plains – from the tiny steenbuck to the elusive kudu and of course the intimidating Buffalo. We are keen to share all the delights that the malaria-free Northern Cape Province offer (South Africa’s largest and most sparsely populated province, 361830km²). No wonder then that many of our clients return year after year for the privilege to hunt with Constantia Safaris.

OWNER

Gerrit Nieuwoudt, an experienced and energetic hunter is registered with the Professional Hunters Association of South Africa. He was born into a family of hunters who have for generations owned and hunted on their own land. He therefore has an intimate knowledge of the game that roam the Northern Cape plains.

He was not only taught the fine art of hunting but also gained special knowledge on skinning, trophy care and meat processing. Today Gerrit owns a 5000 hectare (12 355 acre) private game reserve – home to 26 game species – from where he runs Constantia Safaris.

LOCATION & CLIMATE

The Constantia Private Game Reserve is located in an area known as the green Kalahari, about 130km Northwest of Kimberly and approximately 30km from Danielskuil. Our concession areas in the true Kalahari are further northwest, close to the Botswana border. All hunting is done in semi-arid and typical savannah-type country. Compared to many other countries the southern sub-continent has a fairly mild climate but temperature extremes do occur from time to time. Being in the southern hemisphere, our winter months are May through August. Temperatures range from 25°C (41°F) during the day, dropping to an average of 5°C (41°F) at night. In summer the days are hot with warm evenings, the temperatures range between 20°C (68°F) and 45°C (113°F). The Cape Province experiences summer rainfall, so early and late season hunters can expect some rain. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Africa's First Transfrontier Park) is located in the Northern Cape.

FACILITIES & SERVICES

There are nine luxuriously furnished air-conditioned rooms each with its own en-suite bathroom complete with bath, shower and flush toilet. Other facilities include the Trophy Room lounge, dinning room, well-stocked bar, swimming pool, indoor and open-air barbecue area. The camp is an oasis in an otherwise semi-arid land and a haven for scores of birds. Accommodation at the camps in our hunting concessions are of the same high standard as in Constantia’s base camp. The architecture of some of the camps was inspired by nature itself and the abundance of wildlife around these camps contribute to that real Out of Africa feeling. When the day draws to a close guests enjoy sun-downers and a sumptuous barbecue under Africa’s sparkling heavens.

CUISINE

A highlight on every Constantia safari is the delicious and exquisitely presented meals. We take great care in preparing even the simplest of dishes and then present them in a way that is fit for royalty. We provide a variety of sumptuous traditional Northern Cape, as well as international dishes. At the lodges meals are served in grand style while picnic-type meals are served in the veld if you opt for something different. Complementary sundowners are served at sunset. It is very relaxing to enjoy a good wine whilst watching the setting sun and listening to the awakening of nocturnal animals. Constantia Lodge offers an extensive list of excellent and uniquely South African wines. Constantia will send you a questionnaire well in advance of your hunt to enquire about your culinary preferences
